EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Presentation of the “Operation Reka” Dossier

Fond_Logo_200_200On October 23th, 2015 the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) will present the “Operation Reka” Dossier. The Presentation will take place at the Grand Hall of the Media Centre in Belgrade (Terazije 3, I floor) at 12,00 a.m.

The Dossier offers an overview and evidence on the joint Yugoslav Army (VJ) and the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) operation in the villages of Racaj, Dobroš, Ramoc, Korenica i Meja (the Municipality of Đakovica), in which at least 350 Albanian civilians were killed and several thousands of them were deported to Albania. The body remains of 309 victims were exhumed from the mass grave in Batajnica during 2001 and 2002.

The attack launched by the Serbian forces on civilian population in the valley of Reka represents the gravest crime, with respect to the number of victims, that was committed during the war in Kosovo and one of the gravest crimes committed during the wars waged on the territory of the former Yugoslavia during nineteen nineties.

The Dossier was produced on the basis of authentic military and police documents, statements given by family members of the victims, statements given by members of the units which took part in this operation, forensic reports, testimonies of VJ officers and MUP officials given before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and other relevant materials.

The following persons shall speak at the conference:

  • -Sandra Orlović, Executive Director of the HLC
  • -Milica Kostić, HLC Legal Director
  • -Ivana Žanić, HLC Legal Analyst
  • -Lush Krasniqi, witness and victims family member

No registration required. Simultaneous translation in English will be provided.
