Sandra Orlović This Year’s Winner of the “2009 Young European of the Year” Award

The Humanitarian Law Center Deputy Executive Director, Sandra Orlović, is this year’s winner of the Heinz-Schwarzkopf Foundation “Young European of the Year” award.

This prestigious award will be handed to Sandra Orlović during a ceremony that will be organized in early December this year in Berlin.

“We had a great number of interesting nominations this year and it was not easy to make a decision. However, now we are satisfied with the outcome of the voting and I welcome Sandra Orlović into the circle of Young Europeans of our Foundation”, said the Director of the Foundation, Philipp J. Scharff.

The award is given to young people from Europe who, by their work, make a contribution to establishing understanding among people and European integration. Sandra Orlović, who was nominated for this award by a German historian, Tobias Bütow, works at the Humanitarian Law Center on the creation of a list of killed, missing and dead in Kosovo in the period 1998 – 2000, which is focused on the creation of an objective and permanent record of the killed, dead and missing in Kosovo.

During the same ceremony in Berlin the Schwarzkopf 2009 Europe Prize will also be awarded to this year’s winners: Nataša Kandić, the Humanitarian Law Center Executive Director, Vesna Teršelič, the Director of Documenta from Zagreb, and Mirsad Tokača, the Director of the Research and Documentation Center from Sarajevo.
