Third National School of Transitional Justice Begins

Fond_Logo_200_200The third National School of Transitional Justice was opened on the premises of the Humanitarian Law Center’s (HLC) Library on Thursday, March 24th, 2016, with a lecture on establishing justice for war crimes committed in the post-Yugoslav states. The School was opened by Ms. Marijana Toma, the HLC Education Programme Director. The National School of Transitional Justice is a two-month programme of informal education on instruments for dealing with the past, organized and implemented by the HLC as part of its Education Programme.

The individuals who attend this School, who include university students, activists of non-governmental organizations and public service officers, will have an opportunity to hear lectures on the reach and standards set by the ICTY and the facts it established in the Cases of Vukovar, Oluja (Storm), Haradinaj and Limaj, Srebrenica, Kosovo, on the initiatives for truth-seeking about the past, the standards and practice of respect for the rights of victims to reparation, and the implementation of institutional reform in order to remove individuals responsible for war crimes and violations of human rights from positions in civil and security structures of Serbia. All students will receive certificates on their completion of this course at the School of Transitional Justice.

The next lecture will be held on Tuesday, March 29th, 2016, and students will have an opportunity to hear about the standards and reach of the ICTY from an expert on International Humanitarian Law, Mr. Ivan Jovanović.
